Thanks for the thorough, considered reply. And I agree completely — there is an enormous difference in the experience of creating different kinds of music in different settings. That is a tome unto itself I'd love to read. I reduced the nuance, which is sometimes more than a nuance, between these experiences as they involved a difference in degree, not a difference in kind. That is, they entail different distributions of the emergent engine but they all are negotiations of an invisible, and in many ways imperceptible, body. And that is what interests me: the dynamics, the physics, of the plenum, of those imperceptible yet palpable bodies in which we swim every day at every point. This piece originally began as an essay on momentum in sports — and baseball in particular. Playing music with other people was supposed to be my introduction to talking about the imperceptible bodies in sports. Thanks, again.
